Nightmare

What is it that the undead dream of? Do they relish in the slaughter of the living, striking fear into the hearts of grown men? Perhaps they do, but not this creature. Shamra was alone this night, the day's battles had been tiresome and his bones needed time to mend. He slept upon a dark bed, the great power of death healing his body. Shamra went to sleep hoping it would dream of bathing in the blood of his enemies...instead the same nightmare overtook him.

There was...light...it was bright in this place. He was walking, but the ground was not solid, it was...soft and forgiving. Ribbons of golden sunlight illuminated the blue sky, birds flew not overhead by at eye level, quite an odd place.

Shamra stirred in his sleep, the images of beauty repulsed him, he wanted the light to turn into shadow.

Suddenly, the scene shifted, he was in a city, children were playing in the streets, a wounded man was lying on a makeshift cot before him. He was in a temple...Shamra reached out to the man...his bones were covered in peach colored flesh, something...someone was healing the man's wounds. Why was his hand not around the man's neck, crushing the last drips of life from his living body? Who was stealing this soul from the great underlord, who would halt his feast?

Shamra awoke with a start, his bony fingers were clenched in a tight ball. Why was he having these nightmares, he was not supposed to dream of peace, where was the torment, the death. There was something though...some shred deep inside of him...a spark...that was comforted by these images...remembered them somehow. How could he remember this, he was death, he destroys the minds of countless people, how could he remember this?

'Who am I?"

The ambush

It was late in the evening, the ring of steel has settled for the time being. Shamra's used his mind's eye to peer around the realms. Most were asleep, but a leader of the Ahrmy was still away, apparantly enjoying an evening snack. Shamra knew the his power of undeath would allow him to best the great warrior, so he quietly approached the great maze of the order and carfully navigated its corridors, avoiding the many guards. Once he had finally breached the castle walls, he found the warrior resting comfortably with a small inn. He barely acknowledged Shamra's presence and quickly left the castle, knowing he would be bested in combat. Strangely though, an alchemist appeared within the room, and attempted to snare the great telepath in webbing. Many times he was unsuccessful, and Shamra barraged his mind with terrible images, but finally he succeeded in the trap. Shamra had already sensed an ambush coming even before he met the alchemist in battle, and soon it came. One of his greatest enemies, the leader of the temple appeared form a cloak of shadow and began unleashing his powerful magic upon Shamra. The force of the fire was quelled by a mystic barrier the undead lord had bestowed upon him, but the flames still seared his bones. The alchemist came back and great slashes of wind cut deeply into the telepaths armor. Shamra knew this was coming, and calmly kept his cool while slowly unraveling the strands of webbing that had trapped him. When he finally broke free, he was greatly injured but his mind was still quite fresh and he was able to escape out of the castle and return the the safely of the brood. Shamra had tested his powers his day, and was quite proud of himself that he was able to survive the attack, next time though, he would not allow the jaws of an ambush to snare him.
